A day in the life: Pablo Visual & Graphic Designer

It’s-a-me! Pablo! Another Spanish expat living in Berlin. I was once destined for a career in Science... until I discovered the world of Performing Arts. Then, I was meant to be an actor—and I actually made it for a while! Now? I’m the gatekeeper of heyData's visual identity. I create all kinds of design assets for internal and external communications, and videos, polish our website… you name it!

Your Journey
What inspired you to join heyData, and how has your role evolved since you started?
I applied to HeyData because the job description sounded like a great challenge, but I stayed for the vibes! At the end of the day, a job is a job, but it’s rare to find a work environment like this one. I actually look forward to seeing my colleagues every day—there’s always a smile, a joke, or a kind word, even when we’re stressed. Believe me, I’ve never worked with a team like this before.
The team’s support has also made a huge difference in my approach to work. Taking charge of a growing brand is a big responsibility, and it can feel overwhelming, but my team has trusted me since day one. I’ve grown more confident, and now I see the brand as my baby. It’s so rewarding to watch it evolve and see how all the pieces of the puzzle fit together.

A day in the life
What would surprise us most about your job if we followed you around for a day?
How many different things I juggle in a day! One minute I’m working on a PDF, the next I’m organizing a photo shoot, then I’m creating motion graphics, or prototyping a new design for the website. I never get bored!
Teamwork-Vibes
How do you stay connected with your team, especially in a hybrid or remote setup?
I love the home office! The freedom is amazing—it lets me balance work and life better and helps me focus in a quiet environment. But it is very important for me to go to the office a couple of days a week to see everyone. It’s great for connecting in ways you just can’t through a screen. We share ideas, crack jokes, maybe gossip a little, talk about the latest season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, or just support each other when things get stressful. Plus, I get to meet people from other teams I wouldn’t normally interact with.
A special case is my colleague Bella. She is the other half of the Design Team. She lives (literally) on the other side of the world, but we talk every day—sometimes multiple times a day! It’s incredible the strong team we have grown together without ever meeting in person.

Challenges & Wins
What’s the most rewarding project you’ve worked on at heyData?
I have so many projects in progress! heyData is constantly evolving, and that’s reflected in the brand.
One project I can call "done" (for now) is the update to our Brand Style Guide. It took a year of analyzing and refreshing the brand’s look and feel. The goal was to make it an organic evolution, not an abrupt change. Taking on a visual brand is a big responsibility, but it’s so rewarding to see the results go live and get shared with the public right away.

Mental Breaks
When you need to clear your mind, how do you recharge during the workday?
One of the perks of my job is that I can often work with music. If the task isn’t too mentally demanding, I play some background music and let myself unwind while designing. My go-to for that is movie soundtracks—including all the music from the 8 Harry Potter movies. Those magical notes help bring some inspiration! But in general, any soundtrack by John Williams is good for that.

Tech Tools you swear by
What’s one app, tool, or system that you rely on to keep things running smoothly?
Figma!! All our Design work lives here. It’s so easy and intuitive, and it lets us collaborate from opposite parts of the world. Honestly, we’d be lost without it.
For motion design, I love After Effects. It’s not as user-friendly, but the creative possibilities are endless!
The future
What are you most excited about in your future at heyData?
The project I started at heyData over a year ago is still far from finished. I see the brand as my baby, and I can’t wait to see how it grows! As the company expands, the visual side will have to evolve too. It’s an exciting time at heyData, and one of my aspirations is to eventually coordinate a bigger Design Team to take the brand to the next level!
